Our Ottawa interlock step repair process targets the actual failure — usually a washed-out base under one or two treads, not the pavers themselves. We lift the affected units, rebuild the bedding, and re-lay tight. Full rebuilds get a fresh compacted base to frost depth so the new steps don't repeat the same failure.

  • Diagnosis of the failure (base wash-out, settlement, frost heave, root pressure)
  • Lift, re-screed, and re-lay loose treads
  • Riser correction and rebuild where settlement has dropped a course
  • Full step rebuild on compacted base for failed installations
  • Cracked or chipped paver replacement with colour-matched units
  • Polymeric sand and optional sealer to finish

Why Ottawa homeowners choose us

We fix the cause, not the symptom

Sunken pavers and loose steps are almost always a base or drainage problem. We rebuild the bedding so the fix lasts.

Owner-led every site visit since 2009

Same family-owned crew. Headcount stays at 11 so the lead installer is on-site for the diagnosis and the fix.

Crew based in Nepean, 20-minute radius to every job

Local crew that knows Ottawa frost cycles. Quick callbacks if anything ever needs attention.

Match your existing pavers

We carry reserve stock from older Techo-Bloc, Permacon, and Unilock lines. Repairs blend in instead of looking patched.

What step repair customers say

5/5

Front step had been wobbling for two winters. They lifted the top tread, rebuilt the base, and it's been rock solid through the next freeze-thaw season.

M. Tremblay

Kanata, 2024

Client direct

5/5

Full rebuild of five front steps. They matched the original Techo-Bloc colour perfectly. Honestly looks better than the original install.

R. Singh

Stittsville, 2023

Client direct

5/5

One step had settled about an inch. They lifted it, fixed the base, and you can't tell where the repair was. Done in a day.

Areas we serve

Kanata. Front-step rebuilds and lift-and-relay across Kanata Lakes, Bridlewood, Morgan's Grant, Beaverbrook, and Katimavik. Most Kanata step repairs land between $400 and $1,500.

Barrhaven. Step repair work across Half Moon Bay, Stonebridge, Longfields, Davidson Heights, Chapman Mills, and Strandherd. Newer Barrhaven builds often have shallow-base steps that fail after 3-5 winters — we rebuild to frost depth.

Orleans. Loose tread and settled riser repair across Avalon, Fallingbrook, Chapel Hill, Convent Glen, and Queenswood Heights. Frost heave is the most common cause we see in Orleans front steps.

Nepean. Front-step rebuilds and tread re-lay across Centrepointe, Tanglewood, Crestview, and Trend-Arlington. Older Nepean homes often have step risers that have settled away from the porch — we rebuild to spec.

Stittsville. Step repair and full rebuild across Jackson Trails, Crossing Bridge Estates, and Amberwood. Larger Stittsville porches sometimes have 5-7 steps — typical rebuild $3,000-$5,000.

Gloucester. Lift-and-relay and base rebuilds across Beacon Hill, Blackburn Hamlet, and Hunt Club. Gloucester steps near downspouts often fail first — we redirect drainage as part of the rebuild.

Manotick. Front-step rebuilds across Mahogany, Manotick Estates, Long Island, and Manotick Village. Wider executive porch steps and curved tread runs are part of our regular Manotick work.

Riverside South. Loose tread repair across Honey Gables and the Riverside South village. Newer homes here usually only need lift-and-relay rather than full rebuilds.

Centretown. Tight-access step repair across the Golden Triangle and Centretown West. We bring small equipment for narrow downtown porches.

Westboro. Heritage-friendly step repair across Westboro Beach, Highland Park, and McKellar Park. Many Westboro porches have original 90s-era interlock that benefits from full rebuild rather than spot repair.

Alta Vista. Step repair and re-lay across Heron Park, Faircrest Heights, and Playfair Park. Mature trees and root pressure cause a lot of Alta Vista step settlement — we address the root cause during rebuild.

The Glebe. Heritage step repair across the Glebe and the Old Ottawa South border. Narrow porches and original heritage pavers — colour matching is part of the work.

Interlock step repair FAQs

How much does interlock step repair cost in Ottawa?

Interlock step repair in Ottawa typically costs $200 to $600 per step for lift-and-relay, and $1,500 to $5,000 for a full front-step rebuild. Final price depends on number of steps, base condition, and whether risers have settled.

Why are my interlock steps loose?

Almost always a base problem — the bedding sand under the tread has washed out, frost-heaved, or the base was undersized at install. The pavers themselves are usually fine.

Can you just glue the loose pavers back down?

We don't recommend it. Glue covers the symptom and traps the failure underneath. Lifting the tread and rebuilding the base is the only fix that lasts.

How long does step repair take?

Most lift-and-relay repairs finish in 1-2 working days. A full front-step rebuild takes 3-5 days depending on size and access.

Will my front door stay usable during the work?

Yes. We block off the work area and set up a temporary access path so you can use the front entry for most of the job.

Can you match my existing pavers?

Yes. We source replacement units to match colour and dimension on Techo-Bloc, Permacon, and Unilock product lines. Discontinued colours may need creative blending.

Do you fix sunken pavers in steps?

Yes. Settled treads or risers are the most common step repair we do. We lift the dropped units, rebuild the bedding to grade, and re-lay tight.

Do you rebuild concrete steps in interlock?

Yes. We tear out failed poured-concrete steps and rebuild with a proper compacted base and interlock treads and risers.

When can step repair be done in Ottawa?

April through November, weather permitting. Winter work is reserved for planning, quotes, and emergency safety fixes.
