Geogrid, weeping tile, and proper footing — fix the cause not the symptom
A wall fails because of drainage and footing, not the blocks themselves. Our rebuilds include the engineering work most contractors skip.

Our Ottawa retaining wall repair process diagnoses why the wall is moving — usually trapped water, undersized base, or no geogrid on a wall taller than 3 feet. We re-set or rebuild with the right drainage and reinforcement so the repair holds the slope for the long run.
Sunken pavers and loose steps are almost always a base or drainage problem. We rebuild the bedding so the fix lasts.
Same family-owned crew. Headcount stays at 11 so the lead installer is on-site for the diagnosis and the fix.
Local crew that knows Ottawa frost cycles. Quick callbacks if anything ever needs attention.
We carry reserve stock from older Techo-Bloc, Permacon, and Unilock lines. Repairs blend in instead of looking patched.

Backyard wall was leaning out about 3 inches and getting worse. They rebuilt 40 feet of it with proper drainage. Two years in and it hasn't moved a millimetre.
Garden wall caps were loose all the way along. They re-bedded them and the whole wall feels solid again. Quick job, fair price.
Section of our front-yard wall had bulged out from frost. They rebuilt with geogrid this time. Looks like new and properly engineered.

Kanata. Retaining wall repair and rebuild across Kanata Lakes, Bridlewood, Morgan's Grant, Beaverbrook, and Katimavik. Sloped Kanata lots see a lot of garden wall failures — typical $1,500-$6,000 rebuild range.
Barrhaven. Wall re-set and full rebuild across Half Moon Bay, Stonebridge, Longfields, Davidson Heights, Chapman Mills, and Strandherd. Most Barrhaven wall failures we see are drainage-related — we fix the cause.
Orleans. Leaning wall correction across Avalon, Fallingbrook, Chapel Hill, Convent Glen, and Queenswood Heights. Frost heave is the dominant failure mode in Orleans backyards.
Nepean. Retaining wall rebuild and drainage correction across Centrepointe, Tanglewood, Crestview, and Trend-Arlington. Older Nepean clay soils put a lot of pressure on undersized walls.
Stittsville. Wall rebuild and re-set across Jackson Trails, Crossing Bridge Estates, and Amberwood. Larger Stittsville lots often have multi-tier garden walls — we rebuild each tier on proper base.
Gloucester. Retaining wall repair across Beacon Hill, Blackburn Hamlet, and Hunt Club. Gloucester slopes and mature trees combine for a lot of wall pressure — geogrid reinforcement is usually needed.
Manotick. Estate-scale wall rebuilds across Mahogany, Manotick Estates, Long Island, and Manotick Village. Longer waterfront wall runs and terraced gardens are a regular part of our Manotick work.
Riverside South. Newer wall re-set work across Honey Gables and the Riverside South village. Most failures here are from undersized base on builder-installed walls — full rebuild fixes them for good.
Centretown. Tight-access wall repair across the Golden Triangle and Centretown West. Heritage stone-and-block hybrids and narrow garden walls.
Westboro. Garden wall rebuild and cap re-bed across Westboro Beach, Highland Park, and McKellar Park. Older Westboro walls often have no drainage behind them — we add it during the rebuild.
Alta Vista. Wall re-set and drainage correction across Heron Park, Faircrest Heights, and Playfair Park. Mature tree root pressure causes a lot of Alta Vista wall movement.
The Glebe. Heritage-friendly wall repair across the Glebe and the Old Ottawa South border. Narrow lots, neighbour-adjacent walls — we coordinate access and protect shared property.
Retaining wall repair in Ottawa typically costs $50 to $150 per linear foot for re-set work, and $150 to $300 per linear foot for a full rebuild on proper base with drainage and geogrid.
Almost always one of four causes: trapped water behind the wall, an undersized base, frost heave, or no geogrid on a wall over 3 feet. We diagnose first, then fix.
Short leaning sections (under 2 feet tall, minor lean) can usually be disassembled and re-set on a corrected base. Bulged or taller walls usually need a full rebuild with new drainage.
Walls under 3 feet generally don't require a City of Ottawa permit. Walls over 3 feet, or near property lines, may require engineering and permits — we handle the paperwork.
Geogrid is a polymer mesh laid horizontally into the soil behind the wall in lifts. It anchors the wall back into the slope. Walls over 3 feet typically need it; shorter decorative walls usually don't.
A re-set of a short section finishes in 1-3 days. Full rebuilds of 30-60 feet typically take 5-10 working days depending on access and drainage work.
Yes — and we usually have to. Most failed walls have no drain rock or perforated pipe behind them. We add both as part of the rebuild.
Yes. We source replacements to match colour and dimension on Techo-Bloc, Permacon, and Unilock wall systems. Discontinued blocks may need creative blending.
Yes. Loose caps are a safety hazard — kids and pets pull them off. We re-bed every cap with construction adhesive so the top course locks in.
Yes. We repair retaining walls across Ottawa, including Kanata, Barrhaven, Orleans, Nepean, Stittsville, Gloucester, Manotick, Riverside South, Centretown, Westboro, Alta Vista, and The Glebe.
